Ravenswood Dentistry clinic works very inefficiently - they make you go for an extra appointment only to look at the tooth and then make you go back again (which might take another couple of weeks until you get appointment). I experienced a big ordeal at this clinic during the course of one year. First, they refused to do a teeth cleaning before they provided me with a "comprehensive" first examination which involve
d something like 20+ X-Rays which I did not want to do for no reason. Then I got an onlay replaced on a previous filling which lasted 10+ years. The quality of the onlay was not very good as it cracked after 6 months. During the course of the next 6 months they made me go a number of times and their second onlay broke also after two weeks. I got two other fillings done the quality of which is also not very good - one has an edge, the other has not very good contact with the other tooth. At the end after numerous calls and efforts I was able to get partly my money back for the unsuccessful onlay and they tried to fix for one year (during which my tooth was open for several months) and they terminated me as client obviously because they were unable to provide the minimum quality work needed.

Is this clinic actually free?

Often not entirely. "Free clinic" usually means one of three things: a volunteer clinic with no charge, a community health center with a sliding fee scale based on household size and income, or a clinic that charges a small flat visit fee. A sliding scale can still leave a bill. Ask what the lowest tier costs before you book.

What if I have no income at all?

Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.

What should I bring to a first visit?

Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.

Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?

Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.

Is dental care included?

Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.

Can I get a prescription refilled here?

Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.

What if I need care today?
