Ruth’s Place Clinic

Details: Ruth’s Place, a 501 (c) 3 organization, is a collaborative effort between the organizers of Ruth’s Place Clinic and Ruth's Place Community Outreach Center, the United Way of Hood County, local churches, volunteer doctors and nurses, and various Hood County businesses. The purpose of Ruth’s Place Clinic is to provide free medical care and other family services as needed to indigent, low income, uninsured, or under-insured families. Although Ruth's Place is a free Medical Clinic, a $10 administrative fee is requested for each medical visit to help offset overhead expenses.

El Centro del Barrio, founded in 1973 and doing business as CentroMed since 2001, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center. CentroMed offers primary medical and dental care, behavioral health services, nutritional services, and other support services through a network of 21 sites located throughout San Antonio and Bexar County. Since 1999, CentroMed has received three-year accreditation from The Joint Commission and was most recently reaccredited in 2011.

Casa Juan Diego was founded in 1980, following the Catholic Worker model of Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin, to serve immigrants and refugees and the poor. From one small house it has grown to ten houses. Casa Juan Diego publishes a newspaper, the Houston Catholic Worker, six times a year to share the values of the Catholic Worker movement and the stories of the immigrants and refugees uprooted by the realities of the global economy.

The Community Health Center Of Lubbock was founded in 1992 and has been serving underserved citizens from Lubbock, Crosby, Lynn, and Garza continues. This service area has been designated as a Medically Underserved Area and a Health Professional Shortage Area. Currently, CHCL has 5 different clinic locations. CHCL also operates a mobile medical and dental van. We have 147 employees. CHCL provides additional services such as health education, nutrition, transportation assistance, substance abuse and mental health counseling. Some of our partnering agencies include City of Lubbock, Texas Department of State Health Sciences Center, MHMR, Lubbock Independant School District, Catholic Family Service and Lutheran Social Services.
