About this clinic

For individuals with severe mental illness such as schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder, staying on medication, staying connected to the community and staying in a safe environment are critical steps to reclaiming their lives. For family members, knowing that their loved ones are safe and receiving compassionate care provides enormous peace of mind. For the community, housing and caring for those struggling with mental illness brings safety and humanity to us all. The CCC Old Town Recovery Center wants people with mental illness to experience full recovery and healing, to get their lives back. There, creative staff members are crafting a new model of care - one in which people recover lives lost to their illness, and become active members of a community. A state licensed outpatient mental health and addiction treatment program for adults, Old Town Recovery Center has been a mainstay provider to Portland’s severely mentally ill for more than 20 years. The majority of clients experience both mental illness and addiction challenges, some are homeless, and all have been impacted by many years of poverty. Services in all program areas include: case management, counseling, addiction treatment, co-occurring disorder treatment, access to housing and eviction prevention, medication prescribing and management and access to medical professionals. The Old Town Recovery Center has more than 20 qualified mental health professionals on staff. In addition, the Center employs licensed medical providers to oversee medication management. On site is the Benefits & Entitlements program (BEST) to help people access the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits to which they may be entitled. The Old Town Recovery Center brings dignity and hope to the lives of many who live on the margins of society.

Is this clinic actually free?

What if I have no income at all?
Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
