About this clinic

The name “Bella Vista” means “beautiful view” in Spanish. Hunts Point residents associate the name with quality, affordable health care in their neighborhood. On a peninsula that is isolated from the rest of the Bronx and where health care services are lacking, Bella Vista is more than a beautiful view. It’s a means to ensuring a healthier Hunts Point. The community has a well-documented history of high rates of asthma, obesity, HIV/AIDS and diabetes, coupled with its geographic isolation. Residents were in need of a health care center they could afford without having to travel far. And they got what they were looking for when The Bella Vista Health Center opened in 2000. Its central location on Hunts Point Avenue, combined with a convenient six-days-a-week schedule, a culturally competent and bilingual staff (many of whom live in the community), and a range of primary and specialty care services put the health and well-being of Hunts Point residents in good hands, giving them more than “a beautiful view” toward achieving good health. Bella Vista has introduced the Equality Clinic, a welcoming and inclusive safe space which provides the following integrated health care and social services for patients identifying as LGBTQ: Primary care; Sexual Health - PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis), Contraception, Sexually transmitted infections (STI) screening; PrEP-AP and ADAP enrollment; HIV Care; Gender affirming Hormone Therapy; Gender-affirming surgery referrals; Social & Behavioral Health Services.
