Details: Think of Over 60 as LifeLong’s “flagship” health center. Over 60 was the brainchild of the Gray Panthers, who in 1976 created a clinic in Berkeley that would fill the unmet need for healthcare for low-income senior citizens. It would be 20 years before Over 60 would merge with Berkeley Primary Care Access Clinic to form LifeLong Medical Care. Today, Over 60 has 2,280 patients on its roster, with about 500+ of them transferring from Ashby Health Center, which closes its doors in February.
Details: Since 2003 La Clínica Dental at Children's Hospital has been providing high quality dental services to children of Alameda County and surrounding areas. We treat children from infancy into early adulthood. We perform a variety of dental services including prevention and restoration as well as minor oral surgical procedures. Details: The idea for the Women’s Clinic began in fall of 1996. During that time, there was steady discussion of specifically reaching out to women and children, who normally comprised a minority at the regular Tuesday night General Clinic. The reason for this most likely stems from the fact that the General Clinic is open during the evening, and is therefore unsafe or inconvenient for that particular population to utilize. In an effort to address these concerns, a expansion of the General Clinic was put into place on Monday afternoons at the Berkeley Free Clinic drop-in center. After a semester-long trial run, it was found that the new ‘Expansion Clinic’ was not accomplishing its original goals. Following a six month hiatus of re-planning, the new drop-in center was re-opened at the Dwight Way Women’s Shelter in the spring of 1998.
