About this clinic

The Caring Community Dental Clinic in Jacksonville is part of the healthcare safety net in Onslow County. The clinic provides tooth extractions to low-income, uninsured persons, ages 18 and over. Services are funded by private contributions and grants. Clients are not required to pay but are encouraged to make a donation if possible. Volunteer dentists and a small staff give patient-centered care that increases quality of life for individuals and improves population health among vulnerable populations. The Dental Clinic operates out of the Morgan Building which was donated to the organization in November of 2016.The building was dedicated to the Dr. Ken & Mary Morgan in May 2017. The first dental patient was helped in September 2017.

Is this clinic actually free?

What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
