    • Details: Wheeler and the Bristol and Plainville Public Schools have partnered to expand access to health services for students and their families. New school-based behavioral health clinics employ a national cognitive behavioral intervention model to help students address trauma-related issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and behavioral health issues, and provide other evidence-based interventions to address an array of problems, including anxiety, depression, academic and peer challenges, and more. Linkage to other services in the Bristol community, including assistance with SNAP enrollment and connections with primary and dental care at Wheeler's Family Health & Wellness Center, and a broad continuum of outpatient and community-based levels of care, also are provided.     • Details: Since 2002, Generations has been operating a forty-five foot mobile dental van that travels around northeastern Connecticut to many local schools, day care centers, Head Starts and Nursing homes. Since 2008, in partnership with EASTCONN and The Windham Public Schools, Generations has been providing preventive Oral Health Services in the Town of Windham through its Across the Smiles program. Generations utilizes portable equipment to provide preventive dental care in Windham Schools, Head Start, Migratory and Early Childhood Education programs in the Town of Windham as well as community sites. The Across the Smiles programs operate out of Generations' Putnam site.

    • Details: The UCFS school based health center at Montville High School and Norwich Technical High School is a doctor’s office inside of your child’s school. The services are provided by an APRN (advanced practice registered nurse) and behavioral health clinician who are experts in adolescent health and are employed by UCFS. The intention of the UCFS SBHC is to supplement the care your child receives at their pediatrician’s office. The UCFS SBHC staff communicates with your child’s primary care physician to keep them updated about the care your child receives at the UCFS SBHC. The goals of a SBHC are to: Help students stay in school to receive needed care rather than have to leave campus; Improve students’ academic achievement by taking care of medical, dental and behavioral health needs that can make learning difficult; Remove barriers to care such as lack of transportation or insurance and to support school staff through wellness and educational events.

Beginning June 30, 2017, InterCommunity will staff and operate seven centers in the following schools: East Hartford High, Synergy Alternative High, East Hartford Middle, Mayberry Elementary, Silver Lane Elementary, Langford Elementary and Hockanum Elementary Schools. School based health centers provide services beyond the scope of the school nurse. InterCommunity will work closely with the nurses and any other outside care providers as well as act as a resource center for wellness and prevention.
