About this clinic

Although we have been in business for over 30 years, a sad but true reality, is that many people in need of our services still do not know that an affordable option to receiving healthcare services exists in their community. As a result, many in our target population go without needed healthcare services because of a lack of awareness and barriers to accessing care resulting in unnecessary worsening of medical and dental conditions and inappropriate utilization of high cost emergency rooms. Franklin recognizes that eliminating disparities in health will require enhanced efforts and new methods at preventing disease, promoting health and delivering appropriate care. Accordingly, the focus of the mobile van is to resolve the barrier and access problems and thus lower health disparities by bringing basic primary medical and dental care services directly to the patient – rather than the traditional model of waiting for patients to come to you – thereby increasing the patient’s receipt of preventative healthcare services which will decrease chronic disease onset and create a healthier population. Our medical and dental van will travel to various schools, healthcare, and social service agencies. Although the program primarily serves children during the school year, we will also serve adults during the summer and on school holidays. Our goal is to provide dental services to people who otherwise do not have access to care. The dental services we offer are similar to those available at a private dental office. First, we will identify those patients who need dental services the most and who do not have access to care. We will gather all necessary documentation including parental consent forms for under-aged children and identify an adequate site to serve them.

Is this clinic actually free?

What if I have no income at all?
Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
