Since 1981, InterCommunity has been contracted by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS) as the Local Mental Health Authority (LMHA) for six towns, including East Hartford, Glastonbury, Marlborough, Newington, Rocky Hill and Wethersfield for its behavioral health division. InterCommunity was designated as a FQHC LA (federally qualified health center look alike) in February, 2015, by the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. As a FQHC LA, InterCommunity qualifies for enhanced reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid, as well as other benefits. Per definition of a FQHC LA, we serve an underserved population, offer a sliding fee scale, provide comprehensive services, have an ongoing quality assurance program, and have a governing board of directors that includes those who are served by the health center. In 2017, InterCommunity was awarded the contract by the East Hartford Board of Education to provide primary and behavioral health services through the operation of school based health centers within seven of their schools.
