Clinic Details: As part of the Health Care for the Homeless Project, the Mary Howard Health Center for the Homeless, a comprehensive primary health care center for homeless people, opened on February 25, 1997 with support from Philadelphia's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Independence Foundation, and other public and private funders. The Mary Howard Health Center for the Homeless is the only nurse-managed health center specifically for homeless people. It is based on the premise that comprehensive, continuous health care of homeless people is achievable. This level of care is possible because of the unique "community" developed over the past fifteen years by the Health Care for the Homeless Project and many other providers working in partnership with homeless people.

Adults and children have a single point of access for care that addresses both the physiological and psycho-social aspects of the person and family. The Center’s target population is the residents of the four public housing developments in the 11th Street corridor. The site was originally operated by Drexel University School of Nursing and then joined with FPCN as the FQHC in 2002. FPCN manages many of the health center operations while Drexel faculty and staff are dedicated to bringing innovative and complementary programs to the center to benefit all patients.
