About this clinic

The Saturday Neighborhood Health Clinic (SNHC) is a free clinic for the uninsured, run by medical students and staffed by physicians from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. We provide basic services much like those you would find at a primary care provider's office: preventative care, treatment of acute or chronic medical conditions, women's health, physical exams, vaccinations, referrals, and prescription refills, among others. We do not provide pediatric care, dental service, or referrals for dental care. Any adult patient seeking our services is welcome at our clinic. However, SNHC is not currently equipped to function as a long-term medical home. We strongly encourage our patients to set up routine appointments with primary care physicians after visiting the SHNC. Please visit our resources page for help with finding medications and other local health centers. The SNHC is located in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. The clinic is held in the Family Health Care Center facility at 4352 Manchester Avenue on most Saturdays from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. We do not take appointments. Patients are seen on a first come, first serve basis. Due to the limited number of staff members we have at the clinic, we can only see the first 9 patients who come in each Saturday. We encourage you to arrive as early as possible in order to ensure that you can be seen in a timely manner.

Is this clinic actually free?
Often not entirely. "Free clinic" usually means one of three things: a volunteer clinic with no charge, a community health center with a sliding fee scale based on household size and income, or a clinic that charges a small flat visit fee. A sliding scale can still leave a bill. Ask what the lowest tier costs before you book.
What if I have no income at all?
Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
This directory cannot arrange care or pass a message to a clinic. For a medical emergency call 911. For a mental health or suicidal crisis call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). For something urgent but not an emergency, an urgent care clinic or a hospital emergency department must evaluate you regardless of ability to pay.
