Clinic Details:Sharewood is a free health education program that also provides limited health care services to the medically underserved populations of the Malden and Greater Boston areas. Medical services are managed by volunteer physicians and faculty from Tufts University School of Medicine, under the direction of Gregory Sawin, MD, medical director/advisor. Dr. Sawin is also an assistant professor of family medicine at Tufts School of Medicine and program director of the Tufts Family Medicine Residency at Cambridge Health Alliance. The administrative responsibilities for Sharewood is held by a board of 27 volunteer medical students from Tufts. Dental students and faculty volunteers from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine also contribute, as do physician assistant, nutrition, public health, and undergraduate students from Tufts University.

The Health Center has served the communities of greater Lowell since 1970 and has grown to include many specialty services in addition to comprehensive primary health care. Health Center patients may choose a primary care physician, nurse practitioner or certified nurse midwife from our team of more than 40 board certified medical providers. Behavioral health services are integrated into the care provided at the Health Center. Patients are able to schedule visits with certified mental health professionals working at the Health Center. Our employees speak 28 different languages, and at least 40 staff are trained medical interpreters. Lowell Community Health Center is committed to delivering exceptional care that improves the health of the patients it serves through prevention, treatment and education.
Details: Striving to meet the medical needs of everyone in our community, GLFHC offers the only federally-funded Health Care for the Homeless Program in the Merrimack Valley. GLFHC’s Health Care for the Homeless program (HCH) serves over 1,100 patients at community-based sites across the Merrimack Valley. Our medical team provides primary healthcare directly to this patient population at shelters, drop in centers, and soup kitchens for health issues ranging from diabetes to depression and exposure to the elements. In addition to providing primary healthcare, staff also assist in securing medications, health insurance, and directing our homeless patients towards local resources for food, emergency shelter, permanent housing and job training.
