About this clinic
Whatley Health Services, Inc. is a private, nonprofit, community health center whose mission is to provide primary health care services to those in need. All of our services are available to children, adults, and seniors who have coverage through private insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare and others, and those who have no insurance coverage. Went to the dentist at Theodore R. Hendrix Dental Clinic for 11:00 appointment. The appointment was made a month ago. I was to get 6 teeth extracted because of bone disease from a botched Root Canal- Crown. Your office advised me to have the teeth removed for health reasons. I sat in dentist chair with bib on for 1 hour and 50 minutes. Ask how much longer it would be till the dentist came back to work on me and the dentist said, "It could be hours yet cause I'm the only dentist here today and all the other rooms are full and that's just the way it is".
I believe because I am white they treated me poorly. I and my wife are both permanently disabled and would have gone elsewhere if we could afford it.
I would suggest if you don't have the people there to operate the clinic properly to at the very least call the patients to reschedule instead of having them come in and treating them as low class citizens.

Is this clinic actually free?

A sliding scale can still leave a bill. Ask what the lowest tier costs before you book.
What if I have no income at all?
Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
