About this clinic

The Yonkers Community Health Center is a not-for-profit 501c3 comprehensive ambulatory diagnostic and treatment Center, operated by the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center. Located in Southwest Yonkers, the Center was established in 1987 to serve the increasing number of Yonkers residents who were accessing medical services at the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center. The Health Center’s mission is to provide quality, primary, comprehensive, and affordable health care to the medically underserved residents of the community. The Center was first accredited in 1998 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organization and currently maintains its Joint Commission status. Medicaid and Medicare insurances are accepted in addition to most private insurances. A sliding fee scale is available for those who are uninsured; however, no one is refused services due to their inability to pay. The Center is staffed with bilingual professional and support staff.

Is this clinic actually free?
Often not entirely. What if I have no income at all?
Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
