The agency mission is to identify the causes and effects of poverty within Scioto County and to mobilize resources to address the specific needs arising from the conditions of poverty. Since, the dental center opened in 2001, our goal has been to become the dental home of people who do not have one. Our services include restorations, emergency care, palliative care and preventive care. Our staff promote oral health education and nutrition counseling during patient visits.

    • Details: On March 2, 1965 a group of local concerned citizens had the first meeting of what was to become the Community Action Organization of Scioto County. The local effort was lead by the Shawnee Labor Council. At the organizational meeting, "goals were to discuss the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, define poverty problems in Scioto County and organize for Community Action". Scioto County CAO was incorporated on March 17, 1965. The CAO Health Clinic is a designated Rural Health Clinic certified by the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare and the Health Care Financing Administration. The Clinic provides diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, prenatal care, gynecological care, pregnancy testing, routine lab screenings, birth control injections, Hepatitis B injections, physical examinations, and specialty referrals.
