About this clinic

For the past 15 years, Bethesda Health Center has served the underserved in the Charlotte Mecklenburg area. Our goal has always been to build a healthy community rather than build a larger patient base. The clinic, however, is only one part of our larger community center and plays a vital role in our larger mission: to equip people to live healthy, hopeful, and productive lives. Oftentimes, our patients don’t realize the many other services that are available to them through Camino Community Center, such as an affordable thrift store, fitness programs, and many economic opportunity services. To connect our clinic to our larger organization, and to connect our patients to our other services, we have decided to change our name to Camino Clinic. We will always love the name Bethesda Health Center and the many people we have been able to help under that name. But, to better serve you and the community, we are now Camino Clinic. Although our name is changing, our heart is not.

What should I bring to a first visit?

Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
