About this clinic

Bingham Area Health Center was the first practice in the HealthReach system opening its doors in 1975. We offer both medical and dental services to area residents. Our staff works to create a ‘medical home’ and the best care possible. Bingham staff includes a team of medical providers, behavioral health specialists, dental providers and hygienists, as well as clinical and administrative support staff offering a variety of services based on patient needs. This includes access to our dental center on site. Our providers also maintain a strong relationship with Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, where patients can go for additional service needs. The health and dental centers serve people across Bingham, Caratunk, Embden, Moscow, Pleasant Ridge, Solon, The Forks, West Forks, and surrounding areas. Located alongside the Kennebec River, Bingham attracts people throughout the year for its outdoor activities. Many people enjoy rafting, kayaking, fishing, hiking, taking a swim at Moxie Falls, ATV and snowmobile trails, skiing at Baker Mountain Ski Area, bird watching for Osprey, and other scenic outdoor activities.

Is this clinic actually free?

"Free clinic" usually means one of three things: a volunteer clinic with no charge, a community health center with a sliding fee scale based on household size and income, or a clinic that charges a small flat visit fee. A sliding scale can still leave a bill. Ask what the lowest tier costs before you book.
What if I have no income at all?
Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
