About this clinic

At UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, we're experts in taking care of the health needs of children from birth through adolescence. We firmly believe that the best way to help a child stay healthy is through regular checkups, preventive medicine and early intervention. That's what we do at our Pediatric Primary Care Clinic. Our doctors and nurses provide routine preventive care – including checkups, vaccinations, vision and hearing screenings - and diagnose and treat the many minor illnesses and injuries kids experience. They'll work with you to help manage chronic conditions and provide referrals to a pediatric specialist when needed. They take the time to get to know your child and your family and to answer all of your questions about your child's health.

Is this clinic actually free?

What if I have no income at all?

Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?

Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.

Is dental care included?

Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.

Can I get a prescription refilled here?

Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.

What if I need care today?
