About this clinic

The Fetter Health Care Network’s Charleston Health Center and Corporate Office was established in 1970 to provide primary services to children and adults. Our Charleston Health Center has continued to serve the downtown community and the surrounding area over the years and expanded services to meet a multitude of health needs. Services at our downtown location include Primary Care (Adult & Pediatric), Diagnostic Labs, Women’s Health, Immunizations, Family Planning, Mobile Dental Care, Translation, Specialist Referrals and Behavioral Health. This center also has an on-site pharmacy and a team dedicated to Case Management and Eligibility Assistance for our patients.

Is this clinic actually free?

What if I have no income at all?

What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
