About this clinic

In 2005, following a needs assessment by Carolina Family Health Centers, Edgecombe County identified as another community with disparity in health outcomes among its residents and a great need for healthcare. Carolina Family Health Centers, Inc. temporarily opened a small medical office adjacent to Heritage Hospital in Tarboro, honorably named Freedom Hill Community Health Center after the original name of the town of Princeville. The name Freedom Hill honors the memory of Turner Prince and the freed African Americans who founded Princeville at the end of the civil war. In 2007, a 10,000 square foot, state-of-the-art healthcare facility was erected on the outskirts of Princeville and still houses Freedom Hill Community Health Center today.

Is this clinic actually free?

What if I have no income at all?

What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
