About this clinic

The Family Planning Association of Northeast Ohio, Inc. is a reproductive health organization serving Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties. Since our founding in 1970, we’ve provided over 60,000 men and women with confidential, high-quality, low-cost reproductive health care. We’ve helped them get and use the birth control methods of their choice. We’ve provided exams and testing that were respectful and thorough. We’ve insured that their pregnancies were healthy. We’ve educated them about their bodies and their options. At the Family Planning Association, services are offered on a sliding fee scale. No one is denied service because of an inability to pay. In 2017, the Family Planning Association of Northeast Ohio, Inc. (FPA) became a division of Signature Health. Signature Health, Inc. is a community-based Federally Qualified Health Center dedicated to providing primary medical care, mental health services, and substance abuse services to adults, children, adolescents, and families. Promising immediate access to clients and referral sources, the staff at Signature Health personally commit to delivering accessible, comprehensive, and outstanding quality of care. Is this clinic actually free?
Often not entirely. "Free clinic" usually means one of three things: a volunteer clinic with no charge, a community health center with a sliding fee scale based on household size and income, or a clinic that charges a small flat visit fee. What if I have no income at all?
Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
