About this clinic

Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics (RMYC) was established in 1996 by Dr. Larry Wolk, a Denver pediatrician who recognized a gap in the Colorado healthcare system that left many children without access to healthcare. Our mission is to provide accessible, affordable, high-quality health care and support programs to infants, children, and youth across Colorado regardless of their insurance status or family’s ability to pay. We have grown from a single clinic that provided approximately 2,000 patient visits a year to a vast statewide network with 12 clinics that provide more than 64,000 visits to over 24,000 patients a year. Our dedicated and highly trained staff strive to provide a true medical home experience tor patients and a welcoming and culturally responsive environment for children and families of all backgrounds. More than 85% of the children we serve live in low-income households and every year, we provide over $1 million of free care to families who are uninsured or unable to afford health care services. We treat our families with respect, compassion and understanding. In 2016, RMYC celebrated 20 years of connecting kids to healthy lives with medical, dental, and behavioral health care, nutrition and fitness education, emergency and supplemental food, early literacy and school readiness support, and linkages to community resources for other basic needs such as housing, transportation, food, and clothing. Is this clinic actually free?
Often not entirely. "Free clinic" usually means one of three things: a volunteer clinic with no charge, a community health center with a sliding fee scale based on household size and income, or a clinic that charges a small flat visit fee. A sliding scale can still leave a bill. Ask what the lowest tier costs before you book.
What if I have no income at all?
Most sliding-scale programs have a lowest tier for people with no income, and many accept a signed self-declaration when you have no pay stubs to show. Ask for the clinic's discount program by name and ask what proof they take. Being told "bring proof of income" does not mean you are turned away for having none.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Usually a photo ID, something showing your address, proof of income or a self-declaration, your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one, and a written list of your current medications and doses. Call ahead — requirements vary, and arriving without the right paperwork is the most common reason a first visit gets rescheduled.
Do I need insurance, or immigration documents?
Federally funded health centers serve patients regardless of insurance status and do not require proof of citizenship to provide care. Volunteer and charitable clinics set their own rules. If it matters to you, ask before your visit what they require and what they record.
Is dental care included?
Usually not, and this is the single most common disappointment. Dental is frequently a separate program with its own eligibility, its own waiting list, and a narrower service list — extractions and urgent pain may be covered while fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures are not. Confirm that dental is offered at this specific location before travelling.
Can I get a prescription refilled here?
Most clinics require an appointment before they will refill anything, and a first appointment can be weeks out. If you are close to running out of a medication you cannot safely stop, say so when you call — say the medication name and how many days you have left. Ask your pharmacy at the same time; pharmacists can sometimes authorise a short emergency supply.
What if I need care today?
