Details: Do your kids need dental care? The Molar Express provides care to children without insurance. The Molar Express, sponsored by Ronald McDonald House Charities, is a 40-foot long, specially designed dental office on wheels which travels to many RI communities. The program targets children up to age 21, many of whom are living in poverty or have no dental insurance. We partner with two other highly experienced RI health and human service providers (Comprehensive Community Action Program and East Bay Community Action Program) along with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England to bring full dental services tailored for the communities the Molar Express visits.

Details: Thundermist runs school-based health centers (The Health Hut) at Woonsocket High School and in West Warwick, based at Deering Middle School, which also serves the West Warwick High School. School-based health centers provide primary care services to students in schools, during the school day. All students under 18 must have parental consent to be seen at the school-based health centers. All services are provided at no out-of-pocket cost to the student; if the family has medical insurance the health center bills the insurance company. Services at The Health Hut include: physical exams (including school and sports physicals), immunizations, sick visits, treatment of minor injuries, health education, chronic care management (i.e. asthma, diabetes), and dental services-including examinations and hygiene services.

Details: In 2001, Thundermist and the Health Center of South County merged - since that time the site has seen tremendous growth. Thundermist Health Center of South County serves medical and dental patients, but also has an expanded set of services that include Convenient Care (Thundermist's Walk-In Medical Service Center), WIC, behavioral health counseling, pharmacy assistance, and social services. In early 2015, we opened our new 20,000 sq. foot medical/dental facility at the same location as the existing site.

Details: Thundermist has a comprehensive outreach program to ensure service providers who work with the homeless know about the services we offer. Thundermist conducts outreach in the local family shelter/emergency apartment complex where all new residents meet with the Thundermist social worker to enroll in our Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) program. Thundermist also conducts regular outreach at local domestic violence shelters and residential treatment programs. Thundermist’s caseworkers provide application assistance for social service programs and regular outreach at locations where homeless individuals may congregate; including local soup kitchens, bus depots, and our social service agency partners. Thundermist provides case management services to HCH patients. Our social workers and medical providers make referrals for our HCH patients to community based organizations that provide substance abuse services to our HCH patients. Referrals may include detoxification, methadone maintenance, residential treatment, and a variety of outpatient services. Thundermist also coordinates care and referrals with local service providers for all ancillary support services including housing, job training, literacy training. These organizations include faith based organizations, local housing authorities, housing and economic development organizations, and social service organizations. Staff meet with representatives from these organizations regularly to ensure that adequate referral systems exist and collaborate to reduce barriers to services and to ensure continuity of care for individual clients. Thundermist participates in coalitions and groups that ensure continuity of care and/or advocate on behalf of people who are homeless.
