  • Details: The Agape Clinic, housed in the basement of Grace Church, was started in 1983 to serve the health care needs of the immigrant population surrounding the church. Bobbie Baxter, M.D., Charles Kemp, FNP, FAAN, volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners, and others serve patients four days a week. Services include immunizations for children, treatment for chronic and short-term illness, laboratory tests, and such specialty care as psychiatry, dermatology, asthma, women’s health, neurology, and pediatrics. When the clinic opened, patients were examined in spaces partitioned with sheets in basement classrooms. In 1996, a capital campaign provided funds to renovate the basement. The renovation created a 2,500-square-foot, five-exam-room facility complete with a small pharmacy and waiting room. Today the clinic serves more than 3,500 patients yearly and maintains partnerships with area universities and other community organizations to provide Agape patients with primary care, specialty care, social services, and community health events such as mammography screenings. The value of services provided by the clinic exceeds $3.5 million a year. Patients make donations as they are able. The remaining operating funds are provided by individual donors, foundations, and other organizations.

  • Details: In response to the growing problem of providing children’s health and dental services, Network of Community Ministries’ Adolescent and Children’s Clinic offers free health care and dental services to uninsured children. All services are provided by a dedicated staff of volunteer physicians, dentists, nurses, hygienists and front office workers. The Network Clinic has been on the frontline of medical assistance for uninsured or uninsurable children since its inception in 1992, working closely with the Richardson Independent School District and local medical agencies to ensure the best quality of care. From 2007 through 2009, the clinic served the medical needs of 1,455 children in the community. In December 2009, two of the clinic’s exam rooms were renovated to serve as dental operatory facilities. With the addition of dental services in January, 2010, Network began providing free dental screening and care through the Rotary Dental Clinic. Assessments indicate that absenteeism due to acute illnesses among students has consistently declined in the last three years. Parental response reflects a positive rating of services offered through our clinic as well as a favorable response to the subsequent follow-up by doctors and the school nurses.

  • Details: NDSM was established in 1983 to provide short-term, tangible emergency assistance for food, rent and utilities. Over time, assistance was enhanced with a menu of additional services including job counseling, English-as-a-second-language day and evening classes, school supplies, vision screening and eye glasses. The medical clinic opened in 2000. Initially treating adults and children for acute minor illnesses, the medical clinic rapidly expanded to include women’s health, hypertension, diabetes, dermatology and podiatry. In 2003, the medical clinic added emergency dental care for adults and in 2006 added an evening clinic managed by UT Southwestern medical students. When school uniforms became a DISD requirement in 2007, NDSM enhanced its school supply distribution program by also providing two school uniforms to each child. In keeping with our practice of meeting newly identified needs, we also initiated a free income tax assistance program in 2009. Since then, we have partnered with Foundation Communities to provide this service for low and moderate income individuals in the Dallas area. In 2013, collaborations with UT Southwestern and Texas A&M College of Dentistry provided additional staff and enabled us to expand services and increase the number of patients served. NDSM formalized its behavioral health efforts in 2016 by forging a relationship with the Center for Integrative Counseling and Psychology to provide full time mental health counseling to clients. Given the expansion of our programs over time, NDSM now provides a full array of services to our clients allowing for a holistic approach to their care. Reflective of this approach, in 2019, our medical clinic began serving clients 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. every weekday.
